  1. My problem is that I’m light in complextion.my neck n my under arms at so dark n they embarrass me so much.pls help

  2. This sounds wonderful. My teeth have become more coloured as I have grown older. I have been very fortunate to have strong healthy teeth most of my life, having retained all but my wisdom teeth. I have recently become dissatisfied with the commercial tooth pastes I have been using. I am also extremely budget conscious. I truly like the idea of using such natural, and readily available, ingredients to help, not only maintain my good oral health, but also achieve whiter teeth. I plan to begin using this paste in the morning.

    Thank you so very much!

  3. Hi – Note to author. I believe you meant to use plaque – not plague:

Turmeric mixed with other ingredients remove plague.

It would be great if turmeric could battle plagues though!

  4. How long does the mixture last? Or do you prepare a new mixture everyone you brush your teeth?

  5. Thank you Gail. Am glad you find this article useful. Turmeric for teeth whitening is safe, inexpensive and readily available. Please let us know how that works for you.

  6. “Since it’s a natural remedy it is free from side effect”. Excuse me, I am a big fan of natural remedies – but they are not without side effects! Pennyroyal for example is used to induce menstruation – but is also an abortant.

It is a shame that is hard to find objective analysis of natural remedies so as to best inform ourselves when taking our health into our own hands.

Turmeric toothpaste may well be great, but simply because it’s “natural” doesn’t mean it doesn’t come without drawbacks. An independent article has said that it can be abrasive and suggests not brushing with it every day, as for baking soda.

I would warn against anyone taking the “it’s natural, so it must be ok” approach. Natural IS better, but there are many different methods with many different benefits, consequences, and characteristics to be aware of.

I recommend that you consult with your dentist if your are concerned about using turmeric on any teeth fittings.
Note that turmeric may slightly irritate open skin in your mouth such as gum recession and mouth sores.

  10. I used coconut oil for last two days to clean my discoloured teeth. ( age). Notice the difference already…plus where I couldn’t floss easy. I can now do with no problems….no pushing the brushes to get into gaps….so it’s cleared plaque too. Trying turmeric tomorrow….watch this space

    Your toothbrush will turn yellow

  18. I am envy of all these people who have their own teeth and just need to whiten it occasionally. I belong to the other group, of having much restoration. Therefore, if I understood it correctly (not well explained though) I should NOT use this method (which, again, understood it correctly) will leave me with partial nice looking whitened teeth (my natural teeth) and partial yellow teeth (the restorations, fillings, crown, inlays, onlays, etc)

  19. Hi Sherri, that’s a great question. We strongly suggest discussing with your dentist before trying this out to make sure that the veneers are in good condition. Turmeric is highly pigmented, and while veneers are generally less porous and can typically pretty resistant to stains, it’s very possible to see some staining or discoloration where the veneer meets the tooth, particularly on veneers that are 5 years old or older.

  20. Activated charcoal does the same thing (whitens teeth). I’m wondering why someone doesn’t come up with an activated charcoal/turmeric mix for brushing teeth.
